3. PALLIATIVE CARE
4. VIOLENCE PREVENTION IN LTC
1. FAIR TREATMENT IN LTC
2. SUFFICIENT NUMBERS OF
SUFFICIENTLY TRAINED CARE STAFF
At each of our meetings for the past 3 years, we identified the above 4 areas of common concern. We make efforts during the year to give voice to those concerns and press for improvements across the region.
We are a network of representatives from Family Councils at Long-Term Care facilities across the Northeast. We meet in person yearly to learn, share and support one another in our efforts to ensure quality care for our loved ones.
FJ Davey Home in Sault Ste. Marie graciously hosted this year's meeting on September 24. Representatives from Family Councils in Sault Ste. Marie and Sudbury gathered to learn about:
Behavioral Supports Ontario - the service and how to access it
Sudbury's Health Action Committee Advance Care Planning initiative, and how to support it
Sault Ste. Marie's concerns about fairness in placing long-term care applicants
We learned from one another, and developed action plans to work together to press officials to resolve our concerns. (Download our letter to health care system leaders by clicking the red box, below.)
Nancy Johnson and Roma Smith will continue as Chair and Vice Chair for another year. The Secretary position remains vacant. Please email Nancy or Roma at if you are interested.
We hope to hold next year's meeting at St. Gabriel's in Chelmsford.
